HISTORY

The Institute of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (IFMS) is strategically located in Barangay San Roque, Mercedes – a second class municipality in province of Camarines Norte.  It has the sprawling area of 11 hectares, strategically located for fisheries techno farming.  Historically and geographically, the Municipality of Mercedes is generally acclaimed to be rich in fisheries and aquatic resources.

Formerly, it was known as Mercedes School of Fisheries which was founded by the virtue of Presidential Decree 1050, series of 1977, during the time of President Ferdinand Marcos. Its main purpose was to alleviate the economic status of the country through fisheries education. On April 2, 1992, it was integrated with the Camarines Norte State College when the former President Corazon C. Aquino signed the Republic Act No. 7352.

As of 2019, IFMS is the only higher educational institution in Camarines Norte that offers fisheries technology program. Since its integration, the IFMS has been producing globally competitive professionals who are working within the locality and abroad.

PROGRAM
